John Oxley
80th Birthday Celebration

On Saturday, 21st July 2007, we celebrated the 80th birthday of the launching of the John Oxley. It was on the 21st July 1927 that the ship slid down the slipway at the shipyard near Paisley with the approprate well wishes and a speech by the the Hon. John Huxham, Agent-General for Queensland. Details of the event may be read in a newspaper article on the launch.

Our celebration was in similar style with a spit roast dinner and drinks at the Rozelle shipyard. Despite the cool weather, about 50 members and volunteers attended the function. Tony Hunt cut the birthday cake at the conclusion.
