5. MASTER PLAN

5.1 Restoration Period – The period of restoration for Kanangra will be 1959 – post diesel conversion refit.

5.2 Vessel Utilisation Concepts –

5.2.1 The KRC continued discussion on vessel utilisation concepts. The focus for this meeting surrounded the Commercial / In Survey proposal:
  • Survey we will ask for is 1E with a 1.5m swell height exemption.
  • A naval architect will need to be brought into the project once the vessel is on the Heritage Dock.
  • Tony Blakelock should be consulted regarding survey possibilities and requirements.
  • The number of toilets required was discussed. If the cruise is for longer than 30min, one toilet is required for every 50 passengers.
  • Watertight compartments – will we be required to modify or are there exemptions available?
5.2.2 Further discussion was had as to possible alongside activities which Kanangra could be suitable.
These included:
  • Function Centre – Weddings / Social / Corporate.
  • Meetings (Corporate).
  • Corporate Training Venue.
  • Trade Show display venue.
  • Static museum display room.
It was agreed by the KRC that the option for Kanangra to be restored as a museum exhibit / not in survey was not desirable.

6. HISTORICAL INTEGRITY

6.1 Crew Mess Room – Main Deck, midships, stbd side - ONGOING

6.2 Ladies Saloon – Main Deck, aft - Discussion was had as to the future of the Ladies Saloon in regards to historical issues:
  • KRC members agreed that the Bulkhead that was installed by the SMM in 1987 to create a mess facility for members when the vessel was on display in Cockle Bay should be retained.
  • The area that was created when this bulkhead was installed would be perfect for a galley facility.
  • The bulkhead also creates a private corridor to the Ladies toilets.
  • The galley should be a ‘heat & serve’ facility, not a fully equipped facility as this would require greater compliance with modern day regulations which could see aspects of the vessels historic fabric needing to be modified.
6.3 Ladies Toilets – Discussion was had as to the fact that only minor modification would be required to provide disabled access to the Ladies toilet facilities.

6.4 Gentlemans Saloon – Main deck for’d. The KRC members agreed that this area should be restored to its former 1959 glory including retention of the ferry seating etc.
