Sunday 26th September marked the culmination of a very busy and intense year for the crew of our flagship, SL Lady Hopetoun.

We all enjoyed a trouble free start to the new steaming season, and the old girl performed beautifully.

Some of you would be aware that our Lady lost part of her bow back in February when the engine failed to go astern whilst berthing. Over the past 7 months the crew have been working very hard to bring her back to life.

I must take this opportunity to pass on a big thankyou to the following people, without whom, last night's trip could not have taken place:

Our chief shipwright Mitch Spooner has done a brilliant job re-building the bow. Using his vast knowledge of the trade and a few photos I was able to rustle up, he has managed to recreate exactly what was there before. I challenge anyone to spot the differences before and after. Well done Mitch and thanks again.

Bob Oastler, Russell Campbell, and Rob Everrett have also been of great assistance, painting, varnishing, and doing all those jobs which can frustrate, however do need doing. Thanks troops. Your contributions are extremely valuable.

Len Lark, our new Chief Engineer has grabbed hold of the reigns with great gusto, and is steaming ahead at full speed! The fact that Lady H ran without a hitch last night deserves mention, especially after such a long period of being idle. Well done Chief.

And last, but definitely not least, a few words for our Bosun extraordinaire, Bob Carroll. Over the last 8 years I have been fortunate to have been able to work with some brilliant Bosuns (Doug Brooks, Ian Boddy, and Bob Oastler). A good bosun at your side is the key to any successful vessel and Bob Carroll is carrying the torch beautifully. Over the last few months particularly, the two of us have shared the many highs, lows, and frustrations of Lady Hopetoun's refit. We have laughed and cried!! But the feeling of satisfaction last night was reward enough. Thank you Bobby. We could not have done it without you.

I am pretty sure that all our departed crew mates of the last few years (Doug, Ian, AJ, and Jan) were with us aboard Lady Hopetoun last night. There was definitely a real peace and happiness amongst our little ship, and the season ahead looks positive.

Don't forget, we are always looking for new crew mates to join Lady Hopetoun. Deck or Engine Room, why not join us. Any and all skill levels welcome. There is still plenty of painting and maintenance - it is never ending!
