28 June, 2009: "John Oxley Rudder Riveting"

OxleyRudder1 (50k image)

It's not Ned Kelly - Just SHF boilermaker Onzie adjusting the rivet oven fuel mix.

OxleyRudder2 (55k image)

Rivet almost cooked - note bed of nuts on floor of oven to stop rivets sticking.

OxleyRudder3 (37k image)

Rivet is in and volunteer Ivan holds one side with the dolly ....

OxleyRudder4 (39k image)

...while Onzie starts work on the other side under the shadow of Oxley's propellor.

OxleyRudder5 (41k image)

Father and son finish it off - apprentice Joe on the left.

OxleyRudder6 (37k image)

All rivets in.

OxleyRudder7 (36k image)

The rivets were manufactured in the SHF workshop by volunteer machinist Bill and measure 6" x 1".
