ANMM & SHF name a remarkable speaker for the 10th Lecture in the series
In an announcement sure to be of interest to Fleet members Hugh Lander, Public Affairs Manager for the Fleet, has advised the Mariner that the Guest Speaker at the next Phil Renouf Memorial Lecture will be Commodore Kim Pitt AM RAN (retd.)
When the Fleet's highly respected President, Philip Winter Renouf died, totally unexpectedly, on the 8th April 2002 the Australian National Maritime Museum and Sydney Heritage Fleet decided to hold a joint-venture lecture in his memory. That lecture has now become a series and the 10th Phil Renouf Memorial Lecture will be held in the ANZ Theatre at the ANMM on the 22nd March 2012.
Kim Pitt has enjoyed an incredible career, the first 32 years of which he served as an officer in the Royal Australian Navy as a submariner and in intelligence and logistics. He retired from the RAN after serving in the position of Chief of Staff, Support Command (Navy).
In his "second life" he worked for Australia's Antarctic program visiting all of our Antarctic stations and bases and those of ten other countries active in the region. During this time Kim served two terms as chair of the Standing Committee of Antarctic Logistics (SCALOP), the international group of logistic and operational managers representing the 29 nations that operate in Antarctica. In addition he chaired the Safety Working Group of the International Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs (COMNAP) and was a member of the Advisory Committee of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).
Bookings will be essential as the talk is sure to be a sell-out. The event, a joint venture of ANMM and SHF, commences at 1815 and is scheduled to run through 2030.
