Learning to splice double braid to wire
These practical courses run for six weeks, on Tuesday evenings from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm
Course 1 content: 23rd February to 30th March
- Knots, bends, hitches, whipping and splicing
- Construction of traditional and modern rope
- Eye splicing double braided rope
- Splicing wire to double braided rope
- How to make nets
- Repair of sails and awnings
Course 2 content: 27th July to 31st August
- Advanced knots, bends, hitches and splicing
- Seizings, lashings
- Rigging protection
Course 3 content: 26th October to 30th November
- Ornamental rope work
- Practical, decorative ropework
- Bellropes, fenders, mats etc.
Where
- in the Peter Doyle Learning Centre in the main building of the Australian National Maritime Museum
Time
- Tuesday evenings 6 pm to 8 pm
Transport
- parking is available in the bus parking area next to the museum
- public bus (443) from the city terminates at the museum
- ferry, tram and monorail have stations within easy walking distance

Equipment
- With a few exceptions, that can be purchased at the course, all tools and materials are provided.
Cost
For each course;
- $ 160.00
- $ 145.00 for students and ANMM members.
- $ 125.00 for Sydney Heritage Fleet members.
