Fleet Discovery Day
Join us for the day to find out more
If you, or someone you know, would like to be a volunteer with the Sydney Heritage Fleet, come and find out more about it.
Held every month, the Fleet Discovery Day gives prospective volunteers the chance to learn more by seeing what goes on.
To find the date, time and venue of the next Fleet Discovery Day go to the "What's On When" page).
You are first taken by one of the Fleet's heritage vessels to the Heritage Docks & Workshop at Rozelle Bay. There, you will see restoration of Fleet ships (John Oxley and Kanangra) underway and you can inspect the Fleet's operational vessels which are also berthed there. In addition, you will visit the Shipyard's workshop which houses some of the equipment used in restoration and maintenance of the Fleet's vessels.
On your return to Wharf 7, you will have a guided tour of the 1874 barque James Craig, the Maritime Records and Research Centre, Heritage Engines Workshop, Small Boat Collection, Ship Model Workshop and the Fleet's offices.
Finally, with a cup of tea in your hand, you will have the chance to discuss what you have seen and to ask questions of the volunteers who will be on hand to answer them.
Volunteers are regularly sought in the three main areas of restoration, crewing and administration. Talk to a few of the volunteers already working for the Fleet to find out what you can do.
You must book your place at the Fleet Discovery Day by telephoning 02 9298 3888.
