Sydney Heritage Fleet sites

Wharf 7, Pirrama Rd, Pyrmont, and James Craig Rd, Rozelle Bay

The Sydney Heritage Fleet can be found at two locations, both situated on Sydney Harbour and close to the centre of the city of Sydney (Click for map & transport details).

Wharf 7 Pyrmont

Wharf 7, Pyrmont

The Sydney Heritage Fleet's Administration and Art Union offices are located at Wharf 7, Pirrama Road, Pyrmont, (map + transport), north of Darling Harbour and just west of the Sydney CBD (address at foot of page).

The office is located in a purpose built wharf complex, sharing the facilities with the Australian National Maritime Museum's conservation, storage and library offices.

The three story atrium foyer of the Wharf 7 complex houses the SHF's extensive fleet of heritage skiffs, yachts, launches and Olympic craft (panoramic virtual tour here - 271 kB). SHF members and volunteers utilize the adjacent restoration area to maintain and restore the 50 plus fleet of heritage boats.

Wharf 7 also is a working harbour wharf with the Fleet's magnificent James Craig, Sydney's very own tall ship, moored along side and adjacent to her work shop and offices.

Big Ticket Tours at Wharf 7

Wharf 7 facilities and displays including the tall ship James Craig may be viewed by the public through Big Ticket Tours available from the Wharf 7 and Australian National Maritime Museum's front desks every day except Christmas Day (and see below). These tours are personally guided by the Fleet's trained members. A fee is charged for the tours which helps in the costs of maintaining the Fleet.

On days when James Craig is sailing (mostly Saturdays or Sundays and occasional other days), while Big Ticket Tours are still available, James Craig will obviously not form part of these tours. (to check if James Craig is open for inspection on a particular date, phone Sydney Heritage Fleet on 02 9298 3888)

Heritage Shipyard

The Fleet' s workshop, restoration and moorings of our operational and restoration vessels are to be found at the Heritage Shipyard, Gate 4, James Craig Road, Rozelle Bay, Rozelle (map + transport).

The shipyard (a five minute drive across ANZAC bridge from the Sydney CBD and only open to the public on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) houses all the required maritime workshop facilities needed to maintain, operate and restore a fleet of one hundred year old heritage vessels.

See the panoramic virtual tour of part of the Heritage Shipyard here (272 kB) and here (283 kB).

Public charter of heritage vessels

SHF members and volunteers work continually in maintaining the Fleet, enabling members and public the pleasure of operating these Sydney Harbour icons for official duties and pleasure charters on such important Sydney Harbour festive days such as Australia Day and New Year's Eve. (See Charter Opportunities with Lady Hopetoun and Waratah and James Craig).

Acquire, restore and operate.

Every effort is made by the Sydney Heritage Fleet, a community funded organisation, to uphold its special position in Australian Maritime Museums by acquiring, restoring and operating vessels which have had an historical relationship with Sydney Harbour and the surrounding bays and harbours.

Both sites complement each other for this purpose and are open to the public. (to check opening hours phone SHF on 02 9298 3888)
