Values Statement for the Sydney Heritage Fleet (SHF)
Mission
To build and maintain an internationally recognised centre of excellence in maritime heritage for Australians by presenting, through research, acquisition, conservation, restoration, education and operation, our continuing maritime history.
Values
SHF believes in the following values and uses them to guide its policy and activity.
Volunteers
SHF is a volunteer-driven organisation and as such recognises the central importance of volunteers to its activities.
Equality of Treatment for Volunteers and Staff
SHF will treat its volunteers and staff equally applying, wherever appropriate, the same policy and procedures to both.
Encouraging Involvement
SHF will encourage involvement of volunteers, members and staff by ensuring the free flow of information and providing opportunity for discussion, decision and feedback wherever sensible and appropriate.
Role of Board and Managers
The role of SHF’s Board and managers is to support the volunteers, members and staff through the provision of financial and material resources, people, skills and appropriate leadership as well as the minimum of policy and procedures commensurate with a safe and effective workplace. The general manager will support appropriate organisational structures and cultures to achieve the Museum’s mission.
Treatment of our People
SHF is committed to the highest personal values of honesty and integrity and believes that all volunteers, members and staff should be accorded and should accord each other mutual respect, the opportunity to be heard and the opportunity to participate fully in the organisation and will work to ensure this happens.
Working in Teams
SHF believes in encouraging all members to work together as teams.
Diversity of Interest
SHF recognises that there are many separate centres of enthusiasm within the organisation each of which contributes differently to our mission. The Museum celebrates this diversity within the necessity to work co-operatively to achieve our goals and ambitions.
