Privacy Policy

The Sydney Heritage Fleet is committed to respecting the privacy of your personal information. This Policy sets out our personal information management practices. It covers the following areas:

Throughout this Policy, we refer to your "personal information" which means information which identifies you as an individual or from which your identity can be reasonably ascertained. Your name, address and telephone number are examples of personal information References to "us", "we" and "our" are references to the Sydney Heritage Fleet and references to "you" or "your" are references to Sydney Heritage Fleet employees, members, donors, sponsors, customers and volunteers.

Compliance with the National Privacy Principles

The National Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act (2001) have applied since 21st December 2001. The Sydney Heritage Fleet will comply with these principles and any applicable laws to protect your privacy.

Personal Information Collected

We only collect personal information that is necessary for our functions and activities. In most instances you will have provided this information. It will not be divulged to third parties, other than as described below or if you have agreed to its circulation amongst other members and/or volunteers.

There are certain situations in which we may collect personal information about you from other, publicly available, sources. In all cases, we will take all reasonable steps to ensure security of the information that is collected. Recipients of unsolicited communications from us will be given the opportunity to have their names removed from our data base.

Use and Disclosure of Personal Information

We will generally only use your personal information for purposes related to our activities, or where you have consented to its use or disclosure. We may use your information for our in-house fundraising efforts including the Foundation, The Maritime Society and our Art Union.

In addition we may provide personal information to our service providers who assist us in providing our goods and services. These may include companies that assist the Sydney Heritage Fleet with data processing and analysis, research, mail services or maintenance. We will only disclose your personal information to those third party service providers on a confidential basis so that the service provider can effectively provide those services.

We may publish lists of contact details which may be available for limited circulation within our organisation, such details will not be published without your permission. Examples include phone directories, crew lists and volunteer rosters.

The only other way we may disclose your personal information is where such disclosure is required or authorised by law, which may include emergencies and assisting law enforcement agencies.

Accessing and Updating Your Personal Information

If you need to access or correct any personal information we hold about you, please contact us using the "Contact Details" set out below. We request that you provide us with as much detail as you can about the particular information you seek, in order to help us retrieve it. An access fee may be charged to cover our costs of providing that information to you. In certain circumstances, we may not be required by law to provide you with access or to correct your personal information. If that is the case, we will give you our reasons for that decision.

We take reasonable steps to make sure that the personal information we collect, use and disclose is accurate, complete and up-to-date.

Security of Personal Information

We will take all reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold, from misuse and loss and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. This protection applies in relation to information stored in both electronic and hard copy form.

Cookies

"Cookies" are tiny files of information left on your computer by a website that you have visited. Cookies have been used controversially by some Web sites to obtain marketing information without the visitor's knowledge.

The Sydney Heritage Fleet Shopping Cart uses cookies, but only so that the contents of a customer's shopping cart can be remembered between one part of the shop and another. No other information is used in the cookie for any purpose. Your personal details that are entered on the Checkout Page are not put on the cookie. The cookie "expires" (disappears) less than two hours after you start shopping. Customers and Web site administrators may verify these points with any of the popular 'cookie administration' programs currently available. Remember that credit card details are never handled by our website (see our security policy), and so cannot appear on the cookie.

Under no circumstance can a cookie load or execute a virus on your system, nor can it read and send files or data from your files through the Internet. Realize that cookies are used extensively on some very popular and large Web stores, including Amazon.com. By using cookies, they are better able to serve their customers.
