Merchant ships etc.

Every size and type of pre-container cargo ship was caught by the Davidson lens. When Australians owned a capable trading fleet to compete with foreign ships, Port Jackson was a living and picturesque entity but then we threw it all away.

Can anyone born after (say) 1980 imagine Sydney Cove actually in use as a commercial port with eight or more ships working cargo and passengers? The Davidsons were there with their camera and they can show how it was.
