The Maritime Society (TMS)

  • TMS was originally founded in 1990 as a fundraising vehicle for Sydney Heritage Fleet (SHF)
  • Through TMS, individuals can provide financial support for SHF beyond annual Fleet membership and volunteering
  • Donations through TMS are directed to specific project/s which the SHF Board nominate
  • Donations made during the 2016/2017 financial year will be allocated to the crucial new project outlined below

Lady Hopetoun became part of the museum in 1966 and underwent major restoration and was recommissioned in 1970. She has had a very interesting life built as a VIP and Vice-Regal Steam Launch carrying many important people in her time, was a relief pay boat, and did small towing work through to taking children to and from Fort Denison. Today the Lady remains one of the favourites on Sydney Harbour, still being enjoyed by many Sydneysiders, Fleet members and volunteers.

  • Our 1902 Lady has a growing urgency for a new boiler
  • This will be only her third boiler replacement since being launched in 1902
  • Initial cost estimates to replace her boiler are circa $200,000.00
  • It will take some two years to design, build and install
  • The Fleets very experienced and passionate Engineers will design and install the new boiler and remove the existing boiler
